Clematis terniflora: Japanese Virgin's Bower

Plant Identification: 

  • Growth form: climbing, deciduous/semi-evergreen perennial vine
  • Leaf: opposite, ovate, compound 3-5 leaflets that are 2-3 inches long and have entire margins
  • Flowers: star shaped, highly fragrant, white with four petals produced late summer through the fall
  • Seed: produced in profusion and are showy due to long, silver-gray, feather-like hairs attached
